The RN-BSN program admits four times a year. Fall and Spring.

The RN-BSN program is a distance (online) learning program. Therefore, we do not have a limit on the number of students admitted into the program.
- Question How does an applicant know if the School of Nursing received the application?

Once you submit your NursingCAS application, the University should send you a confirmation email, along with your University ID.
- Question Do you need to be a California resident to be eligible for the RN-BSN program?
- Answer
Yes. Applicants to the RN-BSN program must be a CA resident and be licensed as an RN in the State of California prior to admission to the program. The clinical (practicum) must be attended in person within a 50-mile radius of the University of La Verne.
- Question Do I need to submit my official transcripts to the University of La Verne and School of Nursing?

Yes. Applicants must submit official transcript(s) to the NursingCAS centralized application system.
- Question Can I be admitted into the RN-BSN program without or before being admitted to the university?

No, the School of Nursing and the Office of Admissions work closely together when reviewing your application. You must meet both the University and the School of Nursing requirements to be eligible for the RN-BSN program.
- Question When will an applicant be notified of admission?
- Answer
Applications for the RN-BSN program are processed before, during, and after the deadline. Admissions will review all complete applications and notify applicant once decision is made.
- Question Must all prerequisites be complete by the application deadline?
- Answer
Yes. All prerequisites must be completed by the application deadline. Exception: Statistics can be taken concurrently during the first semester after discussion with Advisor.
- Question What needs to be completed prior to applying to the RN-BSN program?

Prospective applicants must complete 60 semester/90 quarter transferable units from a regionally accredited institution.
- Question Am I eligible to apply to the RN-BSN program with a foreign degree or coursework?
- Answer
Yes. An applicant may apply with a foreign degree and/or foreign coursework. Applicants with foreign degrees/coursework must meet the same admission criteria and must submit an official copy of the original foreign transcript and an English translation.
- Question Am I required to have my RN license prior to starting the RN-BSN program?

Yes. Prior to starting the program applicants must have a CA RN license. Exception: New graduate nurse who completed the NCLEX must show proof of exam results at: https://www.nclex.com/results.page
- Question Will a degree or any coursework completed at a nationally accredited institution transfer to ULV?

The University of La Verne cannot accept the credit from a nationally accredited institution. The University of La Verne can only accept regionally accredited institution units.
- Question Are letters of recommendation required for the RN-BSN program?

No. Letters of recommendation for admission into the RN-BSN program are optional, not required.
- Question If I am admitted to the RN-BSN program but am unable to attend in the semester I applied for, can I defer my admission?

Yes. The School of Nursing offers an option to defer admission. If an admitted student is unable to start the program, he or she will need to notify their Advisor to make academic plan.
- Question What are the prerequisite requirements for the RN-BSN program?

University college level prerequisite courses in the following areas with a grade of C or better:
- Oral Communication
- Written Communication
- Critical Thinking
- Math
School of Nursing prerequisite courses in the following areas with a grade “C” or better:
- Human Anatomy with Lab
- Human Physiology with Lab
- Microbiology with Lab
- Chemistry (Intro or General)
- Statistics
- Question Will I be ineligible if a science prerequisite was completed more than 5 years ago?

No. The School of Nursing does not have a recency (expiration) requirement on prerequisite courses for the RN-BSN program.
- Question How do I know if a course will fulfill the prerequisite requirement?

- Question Will I be ineligible if my grade point average is below the minimum 2.5 in both my last 60 semester units and cumulatively?

Yes. To be considered for admission to the RN-BSN program, an applicant must have a minimum of 2.5 cumulative or last 60 semester unit grade point average.
- Question How long is the RN-BSN program?

The RN-BSN program can be completed in as few as 9 months depending on evaluation of all Transcripts.
- Question When are courses offered during the semester?
- Answer
The RN-BSN Program courses are 8-weeks in duration. Courses are offered Fall Session I and Fall Session II; Spring Session I and Spring Session II; and Summer Session.
- Question Am I able to take a semester off or attend the RN-BSN program part-time?
- Answer
Yes. Applicants can take a semester off. The program is designed to take 2 courses every eight weeks.
- Question Where will the NURS 465 PHN Practicum be completed?
- Answer
The Public Health Nursing practicum will be completed at a public health/community health agency. We have partners within the surrounding areas of Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.
- Question How much is the RN-BSN program? Is financial aid available? Information on Scholarships?

Cost Per Unit $445 to $645
Tuition is $645 per unit with scholarship and partnership discounts of up to $200 per unit available for qualifying students.
