Project Updates

      Major Accomplishments to Date

Timely Care Funding (Fall 2024) Supported partial funding for Timely Care counseling at ULV, which increases student access to mental health at ULV by offering virtual counseling and after-hours services.
Partnership with Gig XR (Fall 2024) Funded and supported a contract with AR/VR company, Gig XR. Students and faculty will have access to software that allows them to practice life-like mental health situations through AI conversations and Holographic scenarios. The partnership will also allow ULV faculty to develop new mental health scenarios, which will be groundbreaking.
HoloLens 2 Devices (Fall 2024) Purchased eight HoloLens 2 headsets, which is the hardware compatible with the Gig XR software that we will be using and developing. The headsets will be used by faculty and staff to practice life-like holographic mental health scenarios.
Student Research Hub (Fall 2024 – Spring 2025) Designed a student research hub, which pairs Undergraduate and Graduate students in a mentorship format. Undergraduate students will receive mentorship, and Graduate students will receive funding support on their dissertation project.
Revamp of the On-Campus Counseling Center (Summer – Fall 2024) Purchased new equipment and furniture for the Counseling and Psychological Services center on campus. Their existing furniture and equipment were outdated, and we expect these upgrades will give the center a more welcoming feel.
WAIS-V Assessment Kits (Fall 2024) Purchased 13 Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale- Fifth Edition kits for the PsyD program, which were recently released following decades without an update. This will enable ULV students to learn a more representative, and comprehensive measure of intelligence.
Multicultural Psychology Course Revision (Fall 2024 – Spring 2025) Supported a faculty member to revise their graduate-level multicultural psychology course to be better aligned with recent innovations in multicultural psychology and include structural competency, dispositional frameworks, and critical reflexivity.
Telepsychology Webinar (Summer 2024) Supported a three-hour webinar hosted by contributing author of the APA Telepsychology guidelines, Dr. Sara Smucker Barnwell, that helped 19 faculty, staff, and students better identify the best practices in Telepsychology.
Mental Health and Athletics Speaker (Summer 2024) Supported a presentation from expert psychologist, Dr. Jason von Stietz, to deliver insights for 23 ULV coaches and athletic trainers on the best ways to identify and respond to mental health concerns in student athletes.
