Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy

Since 1973, at University of La Verne, Marriage and Family Therapy MS Program, our mission is to provide a rigorous and comprehensive education that prepares students to become highly skilled Marriage and Family Therapy practitioners. We believe in the transformative power of both extensive clinical experience and academic studies, equipping our graduates to deliver therapeutic services and facilitate transformative processes with a strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusivity in various professional settings.

Our 61-credit program, spanning approximately 3 years full-time, commences in the Fall, offering students a structured and immersive learning journey.

With a student-centered schedule, classes meet once a week in the late afternoon (4:00-6:25 p.m) or evening (6:50-9:15 p.m), Monday through Thursday, providing flexibility for students to balance their academic pursuits with other commitments.

The program meets all current Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) academic requirements for Marriage and Family Therapist licensure (LMFT) in California.

In alignment with our commitment to excellence, we are regionally accredited by WASC Senior College and University Commission, ensuring the highest standards of education and preparing our graduates for successful careers in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Throughout the program, we foster an environment that promotes diversity and inclusivity, empowering our students to create safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental spaces for all individuals, regardless of their background, identity, or experiences.

Community engagement is at the core of our curriculum, allowing students to apply theory to real-world scenarios and foster collaborative relationships with diverse communities. As a result, our graduates are prepared to make a lasting impact as compassionate and effective marriage and family therapists, advocating for positive change within the communities they serve.

Our esteemed faculty comprises experienced academics and clinicians, each bringing a wealth of diverse expertise and specialties. Their invaluable real-world insights and mentorship enrich our students’ learning experience, nurturing their growth as competent and empathetic professionals.

Central to our program is a clinical practice-focused curriculum, which seamlessly integrates theory and practice. By navigating real-world scenarios, our students gain the knowledge and skills to confidently support and empower individuals and families, making a meaningful impact on their lives.

At University of La Verne, Marriage and Family Therapy MS Program, we strive to empower our students with the necessary tools, knowledge, and experiences to become compassionate advocates for social justice and positive change in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy. Through our collaborative and supportive learning environment, we cultivate competent and adaptable practitioners who are dedicated to creating a more inclusive, empathetic, and resilient society.
